Two on Tuesday:
Silver Lining ~ Kacey Musgraves
Dandelion ~ Kacey Musgraves
If I did a real Ten on Tuesday post today, it would just be the track listing to Kacey Musgraves album,
Same Trailer, Different Park.
I heard her first single from the album,
Merry Go 'Round,
on the radio a few weeks ago and the lyrics instantly captured me. Particularly this line: "
Just like dust, we settle in this town." I think there are viable reasons for staying or going back to my hometown and I love the land I was raised on fiercely, but how many people can I list off that are there because "just like dust" they settled there? I would guess more than a few.
Just a few days ago, I heard on the radio that Kacey Musgraves' album had been given four stars by
magazine and that piqued my curiosity even more, so I bought the album. Ever since, I have been listening to the album, particularly
Kacey Musgraves' voice is not amazing, merely pleasant, which I appreciate because it makes it easy to sing along. And I do. But also, much like with the song
Merry Go 'Round
, I find the lyrics accessible and interesting. Think a smarter, less twee version of Taylor Swift.
For me, the only major misstep is
. Mostly because the sound has a harder edge, but she doesn't pull off a harder edge well. When I hear that song I think, "How awesome would this song sound if Miranda Lambert was performing it instead?" Which is not a surprising reaction considering that Kacey Musgraves has already written a song performed by Miranda Lambert
(Mama's Broken Heart).
If you are a Taylor Swift fan and/or a Miranda Lambert fan, I can not imagine you not liking Kacey Musgraves.
That is what I am listening to today. How about you?
